Trip Details:

We will meet at Santa Ana Metro (station in downtown Santiago), and from there we’ll make our way to the beautiful valley of Cajon del Maipo, specifically to the little town of San Alfonso, where we’ll collect our bikes and equipment, and then get to know the village a little better. Our journey will take us from the Baños Morales, about 4 hours down the Ruta G25 (Way to The Volcano). Along this route you will be able to see an ever-changing landscape, from green woodland to the multicoloured lanscapes of the mountains, taking in the slopes, streams, waterfalls and much more.
In Baños Morales, we will be at the foot of the incredible San Jose Volcano range, where we will visit the hot spring pools, after which we’ll set up camp and enjoy a traditional asado (barbecue) by a campfire, and relax a little before preparing for the next day.
On the second day we’ll get up early and after a good breakfast we’ll walk 4 hours to the Morado Glacier (or San Francisco Glacier), through the high mountain countryside. Here you can wonder at the awesome glacier right in the heart of the Andes, enjoying a little wine or beer and some selected cheeses.
From here we’ll walk back to Baños Morales and take our bikes down to San Alfonso to get our transport back to Santiago.

What you’ll need:

The route is not particularly easy. The inclination is medium, but we still recommend this tour only to people who cycle frequently. The walk to the glacier is easy enough, but bear in mind that it is 2000m above sea level.
You’ll need light clothes for the climbs and thermal wear for the night time and at the glacier. It can get very cold so come prepared. Of course, sunglasses and skin protection are advised.
